What's in BMT's Secret Sauce to finding the best brand ambassadors?

How do we differentiate ourselves? What is in BMT’s “Secret Sauce”?

brand ambassadorsImagine there is a large empty swimming pool, the size of New York City. Inside this swimming pool is every person who is willing to work part time conventions, trade shows, or experiential marketing events.

Some of the men and women in the pool do these kinds of jobs full time. They live in this pool for 3-5 years.  They work for as many companies as possible, keeping their calendar filled year round. Also in the pool, are thousands of folks who are just hanging out in the pool part time.  These folks include: College students, a woman who recently closed her real estate business., a former event planner that needs some part time money. Every single staffing company is sifting through this pool to get staff for this event.

Now imagine all of the staffing companies of the world, standing on the diving board with a megaphone, announcing upcoming jobs. “Fun Promo Job in Philly for $700!”, or “We need bi-lingual people who can work registration at a convention next week in Dallas”.

So far, all things are equal. You’ve got people who need jobs, and companies who have positions to fill.

This is where BMT will differentiate itself from everyone else. Most of the larger staffing companies have not learned how to properly vet all of these potential staff. Men and women start climbing out of the pool, hanging on to the ladders, people standing on the shoulders of others yelling, “Pick me!” Our competitors take everybody coming out of the pool that fit basic criteria and “hope for the best”.

When the event happens, some of these folks don’t make the event, or they show up, but they have a lousy attitude. The staffing company shrugs their shoulders and says “Well, you know how it goes, sometimes you get a good group out of the pool, and sometimes you don’t”.

To this, we say “Hogwash!” What BMT does is speak to these folks individually on the phone, on line, in person, or a combination of all three. We make sure that these people have the right attitude and meet our standards so that our customers’ events go extremely well. We focus on great attitudes over experience. We hire someone who is “no problem” over someone who “knows it all”. You can always teach someone how to say tag lines. It is much harder to teach someone who doesn’t want to be there in the first place, or is only in it for a paycheck.

Hogwash indeed! I always wondered how I occasionally witnessed event staff that didn't want to be at their event. Great read.
